The Australian Industrial Ecology Network (AIEN) is pleased to invite you to join us for the 1st Australian Plastics Recovery Conference to be held from 12 – 14 March 2024 at the Novotel Melbourne Preston.
This three-day event themed ‘Making domestic headway within a global challenge’ will explore potential opportunities for Australian industry and what the plastic/polymer re-use/recycling sector might develop in the future.
This conference will bring together policy experts from all levels of government, industry leaders and early industry adopters to highlight the opportunities in Australia’s approach to plastics and waste plastics management.
Please join us in March 2024 to participate in and contribute to the future of Australia’s increasingly important resource management sector.
The Program Committee is now inviting submissions for presentations addressing a number of key topics, outlined below. Other topics may be considered at the committee’s discretion:
- Overview of the Australian and International plastics management landscape highlighting new emerging industries/technologies that are focused on better managing plastics/polymers as a valuable resource.
- The race towards net zero – the role and potential for improved management of plastics in reducing Australia’s aggregate carbon footprint.
- Recent developments in the Australian plastics recycling sector.
- What are the most legitimate uses for plastics/polymer resins across the economy?
- Current policies, programs and investments to advance Australia’s aspiration of optimising the sustainable management of plastics and polymers across the economy.
- Techniques, processes and industries seeking the improve the management of plastics in sustainable avoidance, re-use and recycling systems.
- Innovation in product stewardship programs for the collection and recycling of used plastic packaging.
- An international perspective of the role of plastics and polymeric materials in a robust circular economy.
- Commercial opportunities for agricultural producers in bioplastics production and utilisation.
- Utilising compostable plastics to maintain/improve the productivity of soils and even restoring degraded environments – the science, commercial opportunities and benefits.
- Government investment programs available to support industry development and the national plastics resource management economy.
- Approvals, licencing, social licence to operate and community relations.
- Case studies or proposals serving as potential templates in addressing the collection, segregation and aggregation issues facing the economy.
- Case studies on developing industries across Australia’s and the global plastics resource management sector.
Other topics may be considered at the committee’s discretion.
The closing date for submitting proposals is Monday 15 January 2024.
HOW TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT
All Abstracts must be submitted online. If you are unable to submit using the online form, please contact the Forum Secretariat for further information (phone Emma McVie on 0404 517 058 or email emma@revolveservices.com.au). Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged by email within 2 working days.
The following information will be required for your submission:
- Presenter and Co-Presenter contact details, title and organisation
- Presenter and Co-Presenter Biographies (we recommend no more than 80 words per biography)
- Presenter and Co-Presenter Photograph (optional)
- Presentation Title
- 50-word Presentation Synopsis
- Abstract (Up to 400 words of text)
SELECTION COMMITTEE
Due to the large number of submissions received each year, a review committee will carefully consider submissions of abstracts and posters. Where possible the committee will place your presentation into a session, however it may not be possible to accommodate every submission. The review committee also reserves the right to suggest amendments to improve the suitability of presentations prior to acceptance.
PUBLICATION
All accepted presentations will be published in the Australian Plastics Recovery Conference 2024 Proceedings.

- I understand that the invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer by AIEN or the conference sponsors to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the event.
- I understand that no fee will be paid for a presentation. If my abstract is accepted, I agree to register for the Conference by no later than 12 February 2024 and will pay a discounted registration fee in recognition of my contribution. I understand that failure to register by the due date may result in my presentation being withdrawn from the program.
